Southern Cobra will be representing Brunei in an International Paintball tournament called World Cup Asia (WCA) in the beautiful island ofLangkawi ,Kedah Malaysia,which will kick off on 10th-13th November 2011. SOUTHERN COBRA will be playing against other teams from around the world in Division 3 of this tournament.

WCA is an international event willl be particpated from teams from all over Asia and Europe as well as the United States.

The Bruneian Team (SOUTHERN COBRA) main aim is to help promote paintballas one of the world's fastest growing and not forgetting to mention safety X-treme sport there is. Plus inturn build up their skills and knowledge gain from playing and interacting with other players around the world, plus to tell the world BRUNEI is not to be left out.

Angel Paintball officially closes its doors

Angel Paintball Sports, makers of the Angel line of paintball guns, Fatboy pods, Angel Air Systems, and most recently, the Angel Eye goggle system, are closing up shop. A note was sent out by Jay from APS this morning that confirmed the news. Angel Paintball Sports, or APS, was responsible for bringing electronic paintball guns to the center stage, and the name is still synonymous for the top-of-the-line equipment.

The company has yet to give an official statement regarding the release of their Angel Eye goggle system and the pre-orders that might still be in limbo.

hey, what a wonderful time to interview the fellow.

El-Tony: how old are u kan ?
Faizal Mahmud: 25

E: how long have you been playing paintball ?
FM: 5 yrs now been playing

E: 5 years has been a long time, what made you change ur playing from recball to supair ?

FM: actually been playing since 2004, so thats about 7 yrs now.
Theres just something about the rush in playing supair, the adrenaline in the game

E: I heard managed to get into Ronin Nexus, how did u manage to get in touch with team Ronin Nexus (division 2)
FM: Actually met them during the ISSC in KL

E: what year was that ?
FM: 2010

FM: We were in div 3 that time, playing for team Payne. they were in div 2, if im mistaken so didnt get to play against them, if im not mistaken

E: then what happened ?
FM: Kept in touch and well, wanted to keep on playing

E: who is their captain & what qualities would u like to our brunei team to have that team Ronin Nexus has ?
FM: Eddy Tahir is their captain. Honestly, what i would like is just the passion to play the game

E: ha ha ha i was just talking to Eddy Tahir about the MacDev markers. it looks good, might buy one.. since they're sponsored by macdev.. does that mean u have to use macdev ?
FM: yes, should be on the way. Curious to know how it shoots, been reading good reviews about it

E: that's the Clone right? what colour are u getting ?
FM: yeap, Clone VX. getting the black/gold version, same colour with my mask hee hee

E: If you had a song to play (in your head) during a game in WCA Langkawi, what song would that be ?
FM: Light years away - Joe Satriani

E: I have not heard of that one, do you play the guiitar ?
FM: i wish i could but i cant

E: always good to pick up new skills... btw i didn't ask, what position u will be playing ? are you a front player, mid, back or snakey blakey man
FM: not too sure yet, depends on the capt, i'll play wherever i'm required

E: What's the next step then ?
Are you going to join Ronin Nexus & commit to them or are u going back to team Payne & building that ?
FM: It depends, i do prefer to build the team in brunei.
Just need to get a proper full team organise and that is the real problem

E: Other than not having a paintball field of our own, why do you think it's a real problem to get a full team going ? and yes, i have experienced firsthand issues

FM: Usually its financial. want to play but don't want to pay, and unfortunately paintballing doesn't come cheap

E: that sounds like a universal world with paintball. do you have any vision on how to make paintball cheap ?
FM: well, for international events, its hard to get away from cost and this applies to any sports.

E: even lawnbowling ?
FM: yeah even for lawnbowling ! because usually its not playing itself that is expensive, it is the other cost. Airtickets, hotels and etc

E: ok i have one final question your dream team to represent brunei, who would be in that team ?
u can pick pro players import that is

FM: never ever thought of that, always tried to get a bruneian dream team hence why i've been trying to get more players to be involve in the international level
rather mindboggling given that the bruneians in the UK hold a yearly Madpaintball event and yet it is hard for us to find players

E: hey you are not answering my question.. so dream now and tell me who would be in your brunei dream team for paintball
FM: yeah. hahaha i dont know other players...never kept track of pro players

Many groups continue to push for paintball and the few 'clans' continue to play paintball in underground Brunei, whilst the others play abroad, just across the borders and further out across the seas and the oceans, and the few who continue to protest, refusing to play paintball anywhere else until paintball becomes a reality in Brunei, the silent 'hunger strike' no one has noticed but themselves, and those few continue to paintball in their minds, and some have paint-ed their dreams slowly, painful.... but surely....

It is now end of August and almost 2 weeks to Black September 4th anniversary, been missing in action due to work commitments, Brunei was hit with paintball fever with the Prosynergy BRIDEX paintball display and now we all wonder what is next ?

The big race to the finish, whoever finishes first, as Brunei experience has shown may not be the one that last.. will Paintball become another casualty like the likes of Go Kart & Archery once setup in Brunei ?

Will it be different this time ? Will the masses support paintball or will it still be the 4% of the 4% of the 4% ?

Whatever it is, where it is, we will always Paintball, we will Paintball in Brunei, outside of Brunei and even in our sleep

In the fasting month, everyone is focusing Paintball Asia Cup 2011 in Bali (28th to 30th October 2011), Acai Sabtu and his Team Brunei Invaders (a.k.a. Smurf Invaders at one time) for this tournament. Good luck guys, you have been doing so much for Brunei Paintball scene...

We are also seeing a lot of marketing done by PALS for the World Cup Asia 2011 (10th - 13th November 2011) in Langkawi.

Looks like a delegate group is going, but will there be a playing team ?

Everything is about new people, a new team, a new group.. and maybe Paint-ed.com will have debut at WCA 2011

In addition to that, we will see the first Madpaintball games post Ramadhan on 11th Sept 2011 at Extremez Zone Labuan

PALS CHINA CANCELLED

Paintballers carry on: don't give up guys, keep plodding on...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 1st, 2011. Haikou, China.

It comes with great disappointment that we must announce the cancellation Round 3 of the 2011 PALS series, the 2011 China Cup.

After more than 6 months of extra negotiations after the last minute cancellation in January this year for the original approved date in March, and despite the many numerous meetings with the all the different Government officials and giving them all the information they have asked for, we have not been able as yet to secure a second written approval despite all the promises made to us that this would be forthcoming. We have been given approval verbally from all government departments, but until we had received the approvals in writing we are unable to finalise anything for the event.

As you may know, the original dates March 25th to 27th for the China Cup were approved by the Hainan Island Government and then this approval was rescinded only 2 months before the actual original date causing us to change the date to September 16th to 18th 2011. We had hoped given the extra 6 months that we could easily get all the approvals through in time, however this has proven not to be the case and we do not know when we will get such final approvals.

Being that we are dealing with the Chinese Government we have no way of pushing any of these issues with them and must simply accept whatever little is given to us on a time schedule that suits them and not us. So with this in mind we have no other possible decision but to cancel the event.

Whilst this event for 2011 has been cancelled we will continue to work with Government officials from both Hainan Island and Beijing to get approvals in place for an event next year. We will learn from this experience of dealing with the local Government and will not release any dates or details until all the approvals are given to us in writing first.

I would like to thank all the teams, marshals, sponsors and of course, the PALS committee for their fantastic support for this event from day one. A special mention must also go to Paul Lam the President of PALS who has been a tower of help and for personally making the trek over to Hainan Island in the beginning of negotiations to assist with the preparations for the 2011 China Cup. I would also like to personally thank my fellow China Cup Promoter, Michael Whybrew who has worked so very hard to make this event happen over the last 12 months. I know that he is more disappointed than anyone with the fact that we have had to cancel this event after he has put so much work into it.

We want to sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation of this event however we cannot in good conscience continue to promote the 2011 China Cup without the 100% knowledge that it will go ahead.

More Experienced players who do want to play may become the Team captain, and the whole idea is to pass on what you know of paintball to the new players.

Assalamualaikum,

Hey all you Paintball Freakz n Friendz,

El’Titan here doing a short (very) segment on the upcoming UPPIC paintball tournament held in Clark @ Philippines this July. This year, Brunei will be represented by Team “Invaders” with 2 import players from Team “Ignite” and 1 form Team “Corrosive”. They will be taking part in the Division 3 group.

Since paintball status in Brunei is still unknown, everything from accommodations down to travels are all covered by individual players with Team captain (‘Bomoh’) covering the full payment for the tournament registration… Thanks Capt!!!

With the expectation of bad weather condition due to the scheduled monsoon rain in the Philippines, I’m sure Team Brunei will do their best to bring some heat to the tournament.

All we can do is support our local paintball scene and hopefully, personal sacrifice and efforts like this, to bring pride to our country, will be heard and appreciated, InsyaAllah.

Been a bit busy since coming back from Manila, we are so glad to have met and played with our fellow paintballers from the Philippines ! I got to see and use both an Angel 1 and a Dynasty Shocker as well as the NT11 markers. The team Splatmasters are very good and it was such a honour to practice with them ! Will post photos here in next posting.

As for Labuan, yes, a new team, Team Corrosive under the leadership of Shukree & Eddie won the Madpaintball tournament at Labuan Paintball Centre. Teams played 10 man paintball. yes, the format is going to be this for Madpaintball Labuan !

My personal long term team, Konoha which is reviving got 2nd place. Come on guys let's make a win, we need to get our names engraved at least once on that Madpaintball Labuan 2011 Championship trophy for a chance for the 'sponsorship prize' hee hee. More details after the 7th Madpaintball Labuan tournament this year.

Trueheart & I are going to do our best to rebuild the once stronghouse team 'Konoha'

We have got 4 teams of 10 players (actually 43 players) for Madpaintball Labuan this 1st May 2011.

We have changed the site to LabuanPaintball Centre as we lost the booking (sniff sniff: other group won't share field and we can no longer set up a 2nd field for 'safety reasons' )

Anyway, it should all be fun, nevertheless.

We are trying to get the prize of fully custom pro jerseys but it seems still premature in terms of numbers and this group this time for 1st May is full of newbies !

Old Dye Invision mask

So, a friend of mine asked if she could borrow one of my old masks to play for tomorrow's Madpaintball Labuan (6th March 2011) game.. I went to check on my old Dye Invision mask, which I think I had bought back in 2004 or was it 2005.

It was falling apart, the notably plastic mold had faded & started to break apart as I pulled it from my stash of secret paintball goodies..

When I checked what was rigid and safe, by applying a bit of pressure on the bottom part of the mask, and it snapped. I thought gosh, a paintball would have shattered this.

Luckily, the only thing left still rigid was the lens !

It's always worthwhile to take extra caution to clean and store your mask safe and cool. Usually, after a game I would wash in the bathtub with warm water & a bit of liquid detergent and let it dry on its own. Even if you're knackered, it's worth that extra effort before you sleep. Otherwise it'll turn out like my mask above... a few games too many after which i just chucked in my paintball box.

And also try to buy a spare mask !

Paintball Robot Project: Looking for Funding

Paintball Robot Project
Overview I want to make a tracked robot with a paintball gun. The robot and gun will be controllable from a distance. The gun will have elevation- the ability to tilt up and down. The tracked base should be able to rotate in place and climb stairs. By rotating in place I should have the inherent ability to pan- rotate the gun horizontally without adding a separate, expensive and heavy pan mechanism. I want to make something light enough so that one person can carry it.

Background I have been working on this project for a while, and I have several models, which come close but don't do everything I am visualizing. I started out a few years ago working with what I knew: cameras and RC cars. My background in RC gave me experience with servos, transmitters, motor controllers, receivers, etc. My career as a professional photographer gave me experience with cameras and video equipment. My background in industrial design allowed me to turn an idea, in my head, into concept sketches, study models, computer renderings and eventually full-scale working prototypes.

About 10 years ago I had a “eureka moment” I was playing with my son, who was about 10 years old at the time. Also at that time, these little inexpensive wireless security cameras were popular. We realized RC cars were also “wireless”. So we married the two ideas. By mounting a wireless camera on our RC car we could then play a game where I would hide an object in another room and he would drive this bot by looking at a computer screen, where the image from the camera was displayed. We called it “Hunt for Red October”.

I then started modifying RC trucks so they could carry more gear, like bigger cameras and parabolic microphones for listening. What came out of that process was called R.O.M.P. or Remotely Operated Mobile Platform.http://www.inspectorbots.com/ROMP.html Basically a removable aluminum plate mounted to an RC monster truck with upgrades to handle an 8 lb. payload. The plate allowed us to quickly drill holes and mount a variety of equipment or experiments. One thing led to another. We said: “Wouldn’t it be cool to mount a paintball gun on the ROMP"… So I built the WROMP or Weaponized Remotely Operated Mobile

Platform.

"What if we could add elevation?"- the ability to tilt the gun up and down. "OMG!” So I built the "Robotic Weapon" and learned a lot about paintball guns. The vehicle had hundreds of beautiful, anodized, aircraft-grade aluminum parts. It could go 50 MPH! but it was very complex and very expensive. I then built the "Mega Hurtz"http://www.coroflot.com/twilight/mega-hurtz/6 which had 4-wheel-drive, a welded steel chassis, armor plating and a pan/tilt mil-sim paintball gun on a rotating turret. It was powerful enough to pull a man or a Hum-vee, but it was a 280 pound monster! http://www.inspectorbots.com/Mega_Hurtz.html

Process My process is simple. I imagine a part or product in my head and then methodically take the sometimes hundreds of steps necessary to achieve that goal.
The Next Step None of these creations could climb stairs very well. Ascending stairs is something we, as humans, take for granted. Stairs are everywhere in the urban environment. Building a robot, which can climb and descend stairs has always been an engineering challenge. My current goal with this Paintball Robot is to find or build a rugged tracked platform, or possibly a multi-wheeled platform, which can handle a wide range of obstacles, including stairs. http://osbots.com/blog/2010/apr/20/ranger-project-robot/

It will also be lightweight enough that one person can lift it. It will be simpler than my previous attempts. Keeping the number of moving parts to a minimum should simplify production and minimize breakdowns. Funds If the project is fully funded, I would probably buy a vertical mill to cut out the parts. I have been making all the parts by hand, using modified woodworking tools and a home-made vacuum former. It is very labor intensive and time consuming. I would also acquire a shop space, which is wider than 7ft, my current shop size, (in my basement) to accommodate the new equipment and project. I would also buy a 3D computer program, which will allow me to design the parts on a computer and send them to the mill for fabrication. I also need money to buy the materials, parts for the project, prizes and fees.

Applications: This project has some real world applications. It may sound menacing or threatening or just plain silly, but I think there may be applications, not only for scenario games in the paintball industry, but in law enforcement and in the military. I think the project could actually help save lives…

"As global terrorism begins to take a foothold and we witness a proliferation of brutal demonstrations, urban conflict, close-quarter battles and general escalation of violence, this robot could reduce the casualty rate and save lives. The operator could disarm or disable an assailant with rubber rounds, pepper spray, or other non-lethal rounds- instead of killing them! In addition to increasing the safety and lifespan of the assailant, the robot takes the war- fighter, or law-enforcement officer out of the danger zone. In volatile and potentially lethal law-enforcement or military situations, by placing the operator in a safe and protected location, and operating the robot remotely, the danger to the operator is greatly reduced, thus improving and saving lives. If a member of your team is wounded and unable to retreat, the Robot could be sent in to extract the wounded person, without having to put other members of your team or medics into danger-into harm’s way."

Skills This is an ambitious project. It may sound simple, but it is actually quite a complex task. Several skills are needed including: Concept sketching, welding, soldering, electronics, programming, experience with RC technology, wireless technology, video transmission, fabrication, computer modeling, rapid prototyping, engineering and a knowledge of paintball technology. Luckily, I have all of this. But mostly what’s needed is vision, passion, creativity and motivation. I have all of this too. I am passionate about this project. I am driven forward by my passion. I can’t stop. I am obsessed, Please help me. Help me fuel the fire of my passion. Help me to achieve my vision. It's true ! Oliver Lang has returned to San Diego Dynasty !

Ollie started playing at age 14 with his best friend Alex Fraige, now Captain of San Diego Dynasty. Oliver played with his friends Ryan Greenspan, Yosh Rau, Davey Williamson and Brian Cole on the Ironkids in 2000. In 2001 Ollie made his pro debut with the LA Ironmen. In 2002, Ollie returned to play with his friends and started San Diego Dynasty. Dynasty went on to become three-time Triple Crown Champions — winning the NPPL, the PSP, and the Millennium Series. In 2006, Oliver made paintball history when he signed a multi-year, $100,000.00 contract with the Los Angeles Ironmen.

Effective immediately, Oliver Lang will be rejoining his friends on San Diego Dynasty and wearing head to toe Empire Paintball gear.

Madpaintball welcomes NEWBIES or PAINTBALL VIRGINS ! we are having a friendly game, aiming to get 10 man teams (yes, the paintball site owner going to get stressed on this) but let's give it a go.

You dont need to bring any equipment other than yourself and good shoes !

it's going to be a daytrip, first ferry from brunei on sunday and back on the last ferry from Labuan !

Here are the breakdown of expected prices so far:

Entry fee, rental + 100 paintballs: B$20
B$10 for prizes for 1st to 3rd places
Maybe will get sponsors again.

Labuan return ticket on Ferry: B$30

Further paintballs are available at RM235 per box of 2000 (to share usually minimum of 4 ppl)

Yes, management kept on saying, stick to 7man teams but we wanted to stick to only 6 teams to play on the day. So what happened ? We stuck to 8man teams ! hurray !

If you are playing under coconut trees, we're going to really chill in this game, as plans became mere plans and we only started at almost 11am ! No worries, this is Labuan and we're from Brunei.

Howdie, I was scrolling thru my Google Reader account and of course I am subscribed to Villain Paintball and noticed a topic of importance to us here. Hydrotesting.

The last time we official sold marker was back in 2007, which means most of air tanks, especially the carbon fibre wrapped high pressure air tanks have gone beyond the 3 year period. Air tanks should be hydrotested every 3 years, to ensure these bottles are SAFE for use.

Interestingly enough this was an issue on why we did not bring our own paintball markers to Operation Nexus, simply because it would have meant we would have to buy a new air tank.

No hydrotest facility (that I know of) exists in Brunei, but I am told that you can hydrotest your air tanks in Miri. Dont know the address. Please do check the link on Malaysia's hydrotesting facility.

With the New Year 2011 coming, it looks like paintball will blossom this year ... insya-Allah.
The plan for 2011 is definitely to pick up on paintball and Madpaintball is one of those venues.

Why do we keep on going after all these years ? I have been asking myself this question from time to time.. and then I bumped into an interesting description the intention and the values behind it...

That boat never worked...

Having played paintball again for such a long time, i felt quite inspired to go on & revive the Madpaintball series, this time, we should try Kuching. We have done Madpaintball in Miri, but not Kuching & it would be so cool if we all travelled down to Kuching say FRIDAY or Saturday, meet up our friends, paintballers and otherwise, .. & maybe party a bit and then play a nice friendly scenario paintball game on Sunday, before flying back home to Brunei on Sunday evening or Monday.

Details so far:

Our site is to be confirmed but our backup site would be BPP stadium in Kuching

Date: Sunday 6th March 2010 from 8am till tired or 430pm..

flight plans: it looks like the easiest and cheapest way is to fly from Miri to Kuching on Airasia

Costs:
Entry fee B$40 per person. this will include mask & marker
Paintballs: A box of 2000 paintballs between RM200 to RM240

I have suggested for missions to include 'treasure hunts' of free boxes of paintballs & equipment.

Script for scenario: working progress... unless you have an idea..

There is also another App, which I haven't downloaded which is the store locator.

WWII Downfall Scenario (Exeter, UK) 4th Dec 2010

I was surfing and remembered one of the old paintball sites I used to check almost daily to plan for the weekly paintball games.. www.walkonzone.com In the UK, it was a popular sites for woodsball paintballers who have their own gear, who like to play that weekend game, without having to organise their own team, and you get good prices too... . Just bring your own gear and you are done.

I would usually meet the same group of people on the different sites. Paintballers, especially seasoned ones are very friendly, so I met lots of people and made friends .... of course, you get to see all the new gear or old gear players were using and share paintball tech info plus personal reviews..... those were the days you just wake up on a saturday or sunday morning and become a weekend warrior

WWII Campaign – Downfall

The 4th and final part of the 2010 WW2 Campaign comes to a fitting climax at UCZ The Bunker. Those of you that have been to the Bunker in the past will know just how up close up and personal the CQB environment is. Like in past events such as Bunker Assault’s 1 & 2 you will be able to experience the quick and fast paced games in a fitting urban location. Unlike the bigger events of the WW2 Campaign, places for this game will be limited to 70 players however rest assured this may quite possibly be the most intense game of paintball you’ll play this year!!!

The Scenario

Saturday 4th December

In a change to previous events run by B-P, as opposed to running the more casual pistol and pump games on the saturday afternoon, at this event we are aiming to give you that little bit more by running some mini-scenarios! These mini scenarios will be loosely based on other actions from WW2 in keeping with the weekends theme.

The mini scenarios we have planned are The Wolf's Lair, the Battle for Metz and also Destruction of the 6th Army.

Each of these games will last from 45-60 minutes meaning you will have just under 3 hours play available to you before the main scenario even starts!! Briefings for these games will be up on http://www.bunker-productions.co.uk soon

As 2010 passes by you can see vast changes in the MPOC. In the 4th leg, teams battled their way to the top in Asia's first ever Sup'air arena.

VIPs included Sup'Air's Simon Fournier from the research and development team as well as Zyzek Barro from Dye Precision.

Millennium Series London: The Millennium Vision for Asia

The Millennium Series is dedicated to the growth and promotion of the sport of paintball since 1999. Since that time the Millennium Series (www.millennium-series.com) runs the biggest tournaments in Europe and offers a platform for competition to the best teams of the world.

Apart from running our own series, we support other tournaments, series and leagues, in Europe and worldwide on a global scale by various means. This includes, but is not limited to providing knowledge, equipment and various other assets.

In the Far East, the Millennium Series has been endorsing the PALS tournaments, which use our rules. The PALS ([url]www.palseries.org[/url]) has grown over the years amazingly fast, featuring their flagship event, the World Cup Asia in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and having successfully hosted events in other countries, like Thailand, Taiwan and Philippines.

In the last months the Millennium Series has been approached by a consortium of individuals and companies, who want to develop paintball in Asia as well. During our recent London event the Board of the Millennium Series invited all parties involved to several rounds of meetings to learn more about their exact intentions and to explain our own vision for the development of the sport in Asia. What was clear was there was a lot common themes and aspirations by all and we sincerely hope that all concerned will see the benefits of collaboration rather than competition which will only help to slow down the growth of the sport in the region

Basically the Millennium Series is asking all parties involved to find a way together towards our common goals. In a time, where support from within the paintball industry is getting less and less, it does not make sense to build parallel structures and organisations, which would lead to divide and fighting each other. Instead, existing structures should be used to accommodate the ambitions and totally justified strategic interests of other individuals, which have already shown commitment and constructive passion for the game, both in Malaysia and in other Asian countries.

If these parties manage to focus on common goals and strategies in a constructive manner, exciting times lay ahead for Asia, which is already the fastest growing region in paintball!
